Answers
How are you able to offer such great pricing?
We cater to the developer who desires to "Build IT Yourself" which allows us to forego many operational expenses found in traditional consulting shops looking to deliver services around the licensing sale. It also helps that we are a Kentico Certified Gold Partner.
How can I see a demo of the software?
You can visit the
Kentico Demo page to test drive in the virtual lab or request a 1 on 1 demonstration. Alternatively, you can download a trial version from the
Kentico Download page if you wish to install on your own server. Be sure to contact us at
sales@buykenticocms.com when you are ready to purchase your live license.
What are the system requirements for Kentico CMS?
You can find the system requirements on the
Kentico System Requirements page.
What is the difference between the license editions and packages?
You can compare license editions and packages in the
Kentico CMS License Matrix.
My site uses several domains. Do I have to purchase a license for all of them?
If you run a web site that uses one main domain and several domain aliases that point to the same content, you need only 1 Web Site License. However, if you use several domains that point to different content, you need to have an appropriate number of web site licenses.
What does the 1 (Single) Website License cover?
The 1 (Single) Web Site License allows you to run one live web site. The web site can have one main domain and any number of additional domain aliases that point to the same content as the main domain. Different language versions of the same web site that are created using the built-in multi-language support are all considered as the same web site. If you run web sites with different content on sub-domains of the main domain, such as extranet.mydomain.com, these web sites are considered as a new web site and require an additional license. If you run multiple sites with different design in a single Kentico CMS web site, each of these sites still require a 1 web site license. The license is limited to 1 physical server.
What does the 1 (Single) Server License for 10 Sites Cover?
The 1 (Single) Server License for 10 Sites allows you to run 10 web sites on a single physical server for a single organization and entities controlled by this organization by at least 50%. The server doesn't have to be your property - it can be a shared, virtual or a rented dedicated server.
What does the 1 (Single) Server License for Unlimited Sites cover?
The 1(Single) Server License for Unlimited Sites allows you to run any number of web sites on a single physical server for a single organization and entities controlled by this organization by at least 50%. The server doesn't have to be your property - it can be a shared, virtual or a rented dedicated server.
What is included with the Source Code option?
There are two levels of source code:
• Source code of the web project and of the administration interface - this source code is provided with all licenses.
• Full source code of all libraries and controls - this source code is provided only as a part of the licenses with Source Code.
The full source code is not necessary for common use of the product - you can create flexible dynamic web sites without modifying the full source code. It's intended for users who need to make modifications to the CMS engine libraries.
Are there any per-user or per-developer fees?
No, there are currently no per-user fees for user licenses and nor per-developer fees for development, staging or QA licenses. Once you own a Kentico CMS license, you are entitled to install that license on any number of development, staging and QA computers that are not used for real production.
How do I receive the license after the purchase?
When your payment is processed, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from us as soon as we receive the confirmation from our payment processor. This usually takes less than one business day. In order to use your serial numbers for generating license keys, you need to register and sign in to the
Kentico Client Area.
Can I generate my own license keys for testing, staging or development environments?
If you have a Web Site License serial number, you are free to generate a single license key for your web site domain name. If you need any additional license keys for development/testing/staging machines or for additional domain names that point to the same web site, please send a request to
support@kentico.com.
If you have a Server License, you can use your serial number to generate any number of license keys for your web sites running on the server. You can also use this serial number to generate license keys for your development/testing/staging machines.
What does the annual software maintenance plan cover?
When you purchase any Kentico CMS license you get the maintenance for 1 year included. The maintenance covers:
• Free technical support from Kentico Software during the maintenance period
• Free major upgrades (6.0, 7.0, etc.) released from Kentico Software during the maintenance period
The software maintenance plan does not cover the cost of deploying any upgrades, hot-fixes or updates.
Does the license expire after the first year?
No, actually, you can keep using the license as long as you want. If you do not renew the maintenance plan after the first year, you will only loose the maintenance plan benefits (technical support and new major versions (4.0, 5.0, etc.). You will continue to receive free updates to your version (e.g. 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, etc.).
What happens when my maintenance plan expires?
When your maintenance plan expires, you can keep using the product, but you will lose the maintenance plan benefits.
Contact us at
sales@buykenticocms.com to renew your maintenance plan. You can find the maintenance plan prices on the
Kentico Maintenance Renewal page.
Can I still get upgrades if I don't renew my annual software maintenance?
Major version upgrades (6.0, 7.0, etc.) are provided free of charge by Kentico Software only to customers who own a license with a valid maintenance plan. Those clients with an expired maintenance plan will need to purchase major upgrades. Minor updates (5.5, 6.5, etc.) are provided free of charge by Kentico Software to all customers who are authorized to use the related major version license (5.0, 6.0).
Who is eligible for free technical support?
Free technical support from Kentico Software is provided:
• To users who evaluate Kentico CMS during their evaluation period.
• To users who purchased Kentico CMS with maintenance during their maintenance period.
Technical support is provided by e-mail and phone. All questions are usually answered within one business day.
Can I upgrade to a higher edition/license later?

Can I purchase a license upgrade for the price difference?
